PAT 4 > Issue 8: Wheels & Tires
Written By: David Pitlyuk
In order to complete the look of any car, wheels are a MUST! I'm VERY picky when it comes to choosing wheels. Now I'm normally a fan of wheels that don't have a lip because I like the way that the wheel looks bigger. BUT, in the case of the 350Z, I think that a lipped wheel looks amazing on the car, and you can think the factory flared fenders for that.
Alright, so like I said, I'm a very picky person when it comes to wheels, and especially since I'm not a huge fan of a lipped wheel, it was very difficult for me to find something. So after much searcing, I decided to go with the 19" Volk SF Challenges.
I went with the gunmetal style. The wheel has five gunmetal spokes with a polished lip. They are also a 2-piece forged wheel. We went with 19x8.5" in the front and 19x9.5" in the rear. The fronts have a +21mm offset, while the rears have a +23mm offset. The final look in terms of the offset is perfect in my opinion, and is definitely the most common used with 350Z owners. We went with the gunmetal because if you remember the theme we're working on is the orange/dark grey/carbon fiber. The wheels definitely help this look out. A big thanks to F1 Motorsports for the great deal on the wheels. For your wheel need, contact them, and ask for Andy. Make sure you tell him Dave from ActiveTuning sent you!
For tires, we went with nothing other than Bridgestone, and we chose their Pole-Position S0-3's. We went with 245/35/19's on the fronts and 275/35/19's on the rears. These are great performing tires in dry and wet conditions, as we had these our project 3.5 Altima as well.
Anyways, nothing says more than the pictures, so check them out! (The car is dropped about .6" with RS*R springs...look for more details in a later issue)
